The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain

Summary:
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a story of a boy, Tom Sawyer, who lives with his Aunt Polly, and is famous for getting into a great deal of mischief. He is a sneaky boy who uses his persuasion skills to dupe people into doing what he wants. He becomes best friends with the son of the town drunk, Huckleberry Finn, and together they witness a murder at the old graveyard. This was done by the famous Injun Joe, and Tom and Huck swear on a blood oath to never confess what they saw. They start feeling guilty and testify against Injun Joe, but he flees the courtroom before convicted. They then go treasure hunting, and it is stolen by none other than Injun Joe himself, so they watch him, looking for the right time to claim the gold. They end up getting the gold in the end, Injun Joe is stuck to starve in the cave, and Tom gets his loved one Becky Thatcher.

Review:
I thought this was a very good and interesting book. It shows where mischief and dishonesty can lead you, and also how it can save you. I would recommend this book to anybody because there is action, drama, romance, mystery, and adventure all in one great story. It was one of my favorites.

Quote:
“Tom was a glittering hero once more—the pet of the old, the envy of the young. His name even went into immortal print, for the village paper magnified him. There were some that believed he would be President, yet, if he escaped hanging.”
I like this quote because it shows how important is mischief actions are to the story, and how they make him a hero. He is a good kid with misguided ways, and the way the town sees it, he will either prevail or fail in life, because of his actions.

  1. The way this summary is written makes the story sound very enticing, and I really want to read it. Joseph makes the story seem very interesting and enjoyable to read. I am probably going to go home and read this book.-James Mercer

  2. Mark Twain's "The Adventure of Tom Sawyer" is a very well written novel. I read it in the eight grade though some parts are confusing, i thought the read was very enjoyable. I feel your summary of the book clears everything up that happened very good. I agree with Joe Bach that mischief and dishonesty can harm you but it can also save you. - Sean Mackey
