Summary:
This story is about a teenage boy who is a jock and seems pretty popular but is struggling with family issues and the mistakes he has made in the past. Throughout Paul's life he's had to deal with the fact that his brother is a complete vegetable and that his father abandoned him and his family. His brother Shawn has been in a wheelchair all his life and doesn't have any idea as towards what's going on around him. He can't speak, he can't move, and most of the time he's either drooling, screaming, or having seizures. This novel talks about the struggles someone goes through when they have to deal with a mentally challenged family member, school, friends, and a father that all of a sudden, wants to have a part in your life.
Review:
I really enjoyed this book. I might not have a mentally challenged family member, but I did relate to a lot of the emotions and problems Truman put into his novel. This book is great for people who no one it's like to be stressed out and to have so many emotions overwhelm you. The best books are the one's that make you feel, so I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a different outlook on another person lifestyle, to see how you can relate.
Quote:
" In basketball, in all sports, the best part is the possibility that something miraculous might happen, the possibility of a miracle is always right at your fingertips if you have the courage to feel it." I chose this quote because it seemed very powerful to me. Although this quote is talking about sports, it could be related to any other challenge too. You have to give it your best and believe in yourself in order to have miracles to occur. You can't give up just because things aren't going your way, you have to try and feel the magic of making what seems impossible, possible.
