Rainbow 6 by Tom Clancy

Summary:
The novel Rainbow 6 is a fictional story about a covert multinational counter terrorism group created by NATO. The story focuses on rainbow’s commander John Clark. In the story an outbreak of terror attacks hits Europe causing them to respond to multiple hostage situations. They take of these situations with easy and without incident. Week’s later terrorists captured the “World park” theme park in Spain and held 35 children hostage and in return demanded the release of captured terrorists. During the negotiations a terminally ill Dutch girl is executed. Rainbow storms the park and rescues the rest of the hostages without incident. By this time you learn that the culprits behind the terror attacks are super radical, environmentalists that own a biological engineering company. They intend to release a super infectious strain of the Ebola virus known as Shiva at the 2000 Sydney games. Their hope was to wipe out the human race except for the terrorists so they could run the world after everybody was dead. Their plan is foiled by rainbow when a terrorist defects and alerts Clark of the plot. Rainbow finds the terrorist base camp in the rainforest and destroys it.

Review:
I really like this novel because it’s rather fast paced. Also it keeps you guessing at all times. I am a big fan of Clancy and his novels. Even if you aren’t into the whole military scene he does a good job of explaining what he is talking about. He also seemingly made the story very realistic. There weren’t times where I thought that something ridiculous had happened.

Quote:
"Okay, but let me get this right. You were willing to kill nearly every person on earth, to use germ warfare to do it, so that you could hug some trees?"
I chose this quote because I thought it was funny. The terror group is kind of ironic because you assume that environmentalists are peaceful people and in this story they attempt to wipe most of humanity off of the face of the planet.

Tom Clancy is known as a very descriptive writer and his books are always full of action. Rainbow six sounds like a great book and something of my stature. Tom Clancy books are usually very long but they are worth reading. This is defitantly something i could see myself reading.

  8. This seems like a great book! I played Tom Clancy's games and they were amazing! If the the games were great, the books are probably great too. I really like books about the military. If you liked this book, I would also suggest reading Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers.
