Forrest Gump (Ryan Sheehan)

Forrest Gump by:Winston Groom published:Pocket Books pages:250

I found this book in our school library.

Synopsis: When Forrest was a boy he was sent to a school for retarded kids. on his way home from school he was spotted by a local high school football coach and he played running back for their team. He was really good and he went all state and went to Harvard to play. Forrest could solve complex math problems and he got an A in physics but failed everything else and he dropped out. Then he was drafted into the army where he did awesome and received the Congressional medal by the president. then Forrest started to play ping pong and got so good that he went to Bejing to play in the olympics. Forrest then joined a band and met his high school sweetheart named Jenny. When forrest started his new career as a wrestler Jenny left him and forrest quit wrestling. After trying out other careers Forrest moved in with his mom and started a shrimp business. Finally he met Jenny and Jenny showed him with his son Forrest junior.

audience: The audience for this book would be everybody. It has everything in it from fightning in war, to sports, to fishing and i think everyone would enjoy it.

writing style:Winston Groom based his book on a movie so he used a lot of dialogue to make his story like the movie. He is alos very descriptive and uses his words to give you a picture of what is going on in your head.

passage: page 9: "About the only class I liked was lunch, but I guess you couldn't call that a class." I picked this because I totally agree that the best class is lunch.
page 187: "I don't know if we each have a destiny, or if we're all just floatin around accidental like on a breeze. But I think maybe it's both." I picked this because i agree with him that we don't have destinies and we make out own future.
page 148: "I am figgerin this: I can always look back and say, atleast I ain't led no hum-drum life." i picked this quote because its the last line in the book.

relating: Overall i liked the whole book. It didn't really speak to me because books can't talk but I thought it was intresting how he lived his life. I couldnt really relate to the book because he has done so many things that a person can only dream of doing and i have never done them. But it was a very good book to read.

  2. I read this book earlier this year and I found it funny and serious and an overall book. So it is a good book and the summary of it was perfect.

  3. This book sounds like it would be good to read. It seems very funny and it seems like it moves along pretty easily. I like sports and reading about wars so I feel that I fit the recommendation. I like the first quote because I completely agree with it.
