Jurassic ParkBy: Michael Chrichton399 PagesPublished By: Ballantine Publishing GroupI read this book a few years ago, and i decided to read it once again. I own a copy of my own and found it at my house.Basically, the novel Jurassic Park is the same as the movie that everyone has seen. The only differences is is that it is more descriptive and allows you to obtain better images in your mind. Jurassic park starts off with a girl being bitten on a beach from some sort of lizard which doctors and scientists believe to be nothing more than an evolved lizard. Then the book continues on with legal and scientific stuff that is associated with Jurassic Park. Investors become worried about how the island is going and how dangerous it would be after they heard rumors of the problems that the island is experiencing. Then mathematicians, paleontologists, and computer geniuses are sent to island to evaluate its productiveness and safety. The truth is that the island is completely getting out of hand and problems that the technicians don't even realize are happening are occurring. The question is whether the island should be shut down or not. Investors will find out if anyone can be lucky enough to get off this prehistoric island alive.
The audience for this novel could be anyone who is interested and experiencing the wonderful imagery that Chrichton presents in his writing. Chrichton gives vivid descriptions of how life would be like if Jurassic Park were truly constructed. By the way, anyone who enjoyed the movie would enjoy this book even more.
Michael Chrichton’s writing style includes descriptiveness like none other. He provides brilliant imagery that engages its readers, while not using vocabulary that is too out of hand for readers to understand.
“But if planting deadly ferns at poolside was any indication, then it was clear that the designers of Jurassic Park had not been as careful as they should have been.” -Pg. 8
This struck me because it allows insight to what could possibly be happening in the rest of the novel.
“He reached the garage and hurried toward the Jeep. It was lucky, he thought, that he had had the foresight to put the launcher in it. He could start right, and be out there in-
It was gone!
“What the hell?” Muldoon stared at the empty parking space, astonished.
The Jeep was gone!
What the hell was happening?” –Pg. 177
This struck me because this passage was part of the rising action, almost reaching the climax of the novel.
“Well then, what’s the problem?”
“I just wish I could see her, is all,” Ellen said.
Then, from down the beach, carried by the wind, they heard their daughter’s voice. She was screaming. – Pg. 15
This was to me one of the most interesting parts of the novel. I think that this part begins the start of the rising action of the book. It was perfectly said by Chrichton to give a reader an image of the scene.
Jurassic Park is by far the greatest book I’ve ever read. The movie can’t even compare to it. I love Chrichton’s descriptiveness and how he engages the reader in what he is saying. I can relate to the novel by how interesting I find genetic engineering is. I also can relate to how as a kid I shared the same obsession with dinosaurs the author depicts little kids having. The part that struck me most was the idea of chaos theory with can really never be accurately calculated.

I saw the movie and I thought it was very good I have seen it multiple times and every time I watch it, I still enjoy it. I think this is a book that may spark my interest and one I could possibly look into for the fourth quarter. I like the quotes you picked used and how you realized that these passages were a type of foreshadowing. I defiantly agree with you that the book most likely is more descriptive and gives a better imagery in your head, most books tend to do that and that is one aspect of why I like books more than movies sometimes.

I have seen the movie and the book sounds just as interesting and exciting as it. I like how the book goes more in depth about the science and details behind the beginning. I also enjoy the quotes you pick because they really describe the plot of the book. They also describe how the book isn't just description about the science but contains drama. Though I loved the movie, I must read the book to determine which one is better.
ReplyDeleteI have also seen the movie and I have heard that the book is a lot better. The book goes much more in depth about everything. The quotes that you chose really describe the plot of the book and everything that goes on in it. I'm really interested in reading this book to find out for myself which is better, the book or the movie. -Corey Whelihan
ReplyDeleteI have seen the movies but never read the book. I think you picked great quotes that vividly depict scenes from the book and movie. I think you described the imagery well because authors tend to make very detailed descriptions.
