My mom bought the whole book series for Christmas and I had watched the whole first season on HBO with my mom and I fell in love with the show. I figured the books would be better and I was right!
Sookie Stackhouse, a cocktail waitress and telepath from Bon Temps has to deal with the rudeness of the travelers and they’re tight tips, but she was waiting for one of them, the vampires. Ever since there species was made world wide, she’d been waiting for one of them to stop by at Merlotte’s Bar. She got lucky when Bill Compton walked in one night for a glass of wine, but was it really the wine he craved for? Sookie falls passionately in love with Bill and vice versa. Though in the small tow, murders and mysterious things happen and Sookie has to solve this case, is it Bill or are there more night crawlers nesting in Bon Temps?
This book is for a mature audience because there’s a lot of violence, sex, and profanity.
This book has slight of a southern accent for some characters. It’s written in first person omniscient. (Ex: “How old you reckon the vampire is, the one you met?” Pg.23)
Pg. 13 “…So I was trying to absorb every detail I could; I would treasure this encounter and rehash it for a long, long time. It was rare, a prize. I wanted to touch his skin again. I couldn’t remember how it felt. But that would be going beyond some boundary of manners, and also maybe start him going on the seductive crap again.”
I picked this passage because I like how Sookie wants to have an interaction with something far too dangerous for her to measure up to. This is also the part when Bill saves her life for saving his life.
Pg.161 “I could never have a child by Bill, which was nice at least when you thought of not having to practice birth control, but…”
I picked this quote because I thought it was funny that she would think of something like that. I thought she should’ve thought more about the fact that she’s having sex with a dead guy!
Pg. 190 “I’m gonna to dig a hole.”
I picked this quote because it was very random and amusing because Sookie was angry and she wanted to figure out some way to direct her anger.
I can relate to the fact that the story line is based on loving someone but having some type of obstacle that keeps them apart. I like that Sookie and Bill had a very passionate relationship. I thought that the part when Bill leaves Buba to watch Sookie was a great way to express how much Bill cares about her. I think that that the book is overall unique and different from regular vampire novels; it has a modern touch to it.

This book sounds pretty cool. I might have considered reading it if Twilight never existed. Actually now that I think about it, it sounds exactly like Twilight. Is this the book that True Blood is based off of? -Pat Larrow
ReplyDeleteThis novel is directed towards a mature audience because of sex, violence, and profanity? Those are a teens three favorite subjects! (haha) I'm very well roubded when it comes to music, as I am when it comes to novels. I could see myself reading this and watching the series on HBO. It seems like a more mature version of Twilight. I guess I'll have to read it and see for myself.

This book seems really cool. I think they should make it into a movie though becasue it would be more interesting. But I think it sounds like this book has a good plot.
ReplyDeleteAnother vampire book. Seems like it’s a new fad or something. Sounds like an intense boo though. The fact that you watched the series first then read the books is interesting. I’m wondering if the to differed at all. It sounds like you really liked it though witch is good. Your passages make the book seem like it would be filled with passion witch kind of makes me not want to read it. It seems a little to emotionally intensive and involved for me. The mystery aspect seems like it would be cool though especially when dealing with vampires. Good job.

This book sounds like a wanna be Twilight. But it also sounds different from twilight. I like how she wants to prove that her lover isn't the one killing around town but at the same time she wants to stop whoever is causing this chaos. It sounds like a perfect mix of a adult type book but great for teens to read.
