Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie (Jill Frost)

Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie, David Lubar, Speak, 279 pages

* I found the book at Boarders.

*In the book Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie written by David Lubar, is about a boy named Scott who is about to start his freshmen year in High School. Everyone knows freshmen year isn't the eaisest, and Scott learns all the ups, downs, dos, and don'ts of High School. Scott starts school with his 4 clostest friends, and by the end they have all gone their seperate ways. Scott also finds out in the begining of the school year that his mother is pregnant. Scott wants a girl to notice him so he gets involved in all this school activities, and she never notices him until he noticies another girl. Scott learns many things about himself, his friends, and his family through this book, the good things and the bad. In the book, Scott writes entries about highschool and whats going on in his life to his baby brother who hasn't yet been born. The book is like a survival guide for him.

*The auidence for this book is really anybody but mostly freshmen because it is about a kids first year there.

* The authors writing style in this book is friendly. There is a lot of dialoge between people and she also has entries in the book showing his feelings being written down on paper. "September 28 Congratulare me, Smelly. I made it through my first month of highschool...."

*-Passage 1: "I'd already filled a page in my assignment book...If this had been a Monday, I think I would have just quit right then and joined the army." pg 22This quote struck me because a lot of people think that with school. We all never want a 5 day week and always complain that it's monday.-
Passage 2: "Unlike cars, lives don't have a way to go in reverse." pg 240This quote struck me becuase it's completely true. If you mess up in life, you can't just rewind your life and re-do it. It stays that way. Except when you're driving down a road and miss the street to turn on, you can just reverse and go down it like nothing had happened.-
Passage 3: " I've been thinking abut it for the last two days. The old me never would have beaten Kyle." Pg240This quote struck me becuase this is also true. When you're in High School, you are bound to change through out it, maybe once or twice, or more. You do things and then you realize that your old self would have never done it.

*There wasn't really a way that i interacted with the book. For one, i'm not a boy, and i'm also not a freshmen and my mom was never pregnant when i was a freshmen. I never got bullied as a freshmen either, and i never did anything to impress a boy. The book just sounded good and interesting, so i decided to read it. Nothing really spoke to me either, except how at the end of the book, the whole group of friends had gone their own separate ways and that happens frequently in High School.

  1. I think that this book actually seems like some younger people, or freshmen could relate to this. I dont really think there is that much bullying like this kid was in our school. But i do believe boys so try to get girls to notice them a lot by doing things. I like the first quote that Jill picked. I always hate mondays like I'm sure everybody else does. Jill does a very good job describing the book and the quotes she gives us are interesting.

  2. I have never read or even heard of this book, but after reading the summary I think I want to. I feel like I could relate well to this book because my freshman year was hard because I had just moved to a new place and didn't know anyone. Since I think I could relate to it so much I think I would enjoy reading it. The second quote was my favorite of the three because it is so true that once you've done something you can never undo it. Unlike Jill I do think I could have related to the book more. However like Jill, my mom was not pregnant my freshman year either and im also not a boy.
