The Lost Symbol, Dan Brown, Random House, a couple hundred pages
I found this book at a book store
Summary: deep inside the heart of Washington DC, The Lost Symbol accelerates through a startling begining on to an unthinkable end. As the story opens, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned unexpectedly to deliver an evening lecture in the U.S. Capitol Building. Within minutes of his arrival the night takes a bizarre turn. A disturbing object artfully encoded with five symbols is discovered in the Capitol Building. Langdon recognizes the object as an ancient invitation . . . one meant to bring its holder into a long-lost world of ancient wisdom. When Langdon's beloved mentor, Peter Solomon who is a prominent Mason and philanthropist is brutally kidnapped. Langdon realizes his only hope of saving Peter is to accept this mystical invitation and follow wherever it leads him. Langdon is instantly plunged into a secret world of Masonic secrets, hidden history, and never-before-seen locations which all seem to be leading him into a certain fate.
The audience of this book is for people who like mystery and huge plot twists.
Dan Brown has a very decriptive writing style. He is also capable of taking real facts and fiction and work them together to create a great mystery.
"Langdon finds himself quickly swept behind the facade of America’s most powerful city into the unseen chambers, temples and tunnels which exist there. All that was familiar is transformed into a shadowy, clandestine world of an artfully concealed past in which Masonic secrets and never-before-seen revelations seem to be leading him to a single impossible and inconceivable truth." -This passage shows how secretive and hidden the real facts and truths are.
This book, in my opinion, was very good. It took real history and facts and put a fictional mystery together and also included several huge plot twists. Once you thought you knew what was going to happen, you would be very surprised when you find out that it took off in the totally other direction. Another thing that is good about Dan Brown's writing is that he creates great controversy with his stories and really makes people thinl about what they believe and what they think are the real facts.
