Alanna: The First Adventure by Tamora Pierce

Summmary:
A young girl, Alanna, from Tortall goes on to a journey to the capital of Corus, where she would begin her schooling of becoming a knight. In her time time it wasn't allowed for there to be a woman knight, and with the attempt of her father sending her and her twin brother, Thom to schools, him knighting school and her convent school, where they'll teach her to be a lady. Alanna and Thom have no intentions of becoming a lady and her brother doesn't want to become a knight, so they switch places. The convent is also a school for sorcery, which is what Thom wants to do; so behind their fathers back they switch places. Coram their close guardian who intends to bring Thom to the capital city goes with the plan, but doesn't like it at first. Once at the capital city, Alanna, or Alan as her cover name, has very difficult tasks to attend to and hard studies to keep up on, and not only that, but her true identity.

Review:
Anyone who is interested into woman as being the heroine in the story, and the the fight for equal rights for females. This book contains a lot of action and traveling. There is magic and a talking cat, and there is a secret love story that emerges slowly and subtlely in some chapters. This novel contains 3 other books because it is a series. This novel is fictional fantasy and is 274 pages long, 7 chapters and a really good read.

Quote:
"I'd soon as kiss a pig! Is that what you've been doing_ Kissing pigs? Or being kissed?" I chose this quote because it's when Ralon, a bully in the school first fights Alanna, and i like that she stood up to him, because i use to do the same thing.
