Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer

Summary:
This story was originally a magazine article. Jon Krakauer was hired by outside magazine to write an article about Mt.Everest. After he writes the story he decides to climb it himself. He joins a group called adventure consultants. They start off ok but then when the start going up to the summit a blizzard hits. Everybody that has not reached the summit by 2 pm is suppossed to turn around and go back but they dont. Krakauer is lucky and he makes it back to camp before the blizzard is in full force. but several climbers are stuck outside. they try to save some of them but they cant and one of the men who tries to save the trapped men dies himself. one of the men left for dead makes in back do camp but he had several of his limbs amputated.

My take on the story:
What i took away from this story is that MtEverest is very dangerous to climb. a lot of people died climbing that mountain, 10 in that year alone, and it just doesnt seem worth it to risk your life to climb to the tp of a mountain. It was a good book, if you like outdoors books then you should read it. I recomend not to climb mt everset too.

Quote:
Finally I woke up enough to recognize that I was in deep shit and the cavalry wasn't coming so I better do something about it myself.

This quote is said by one of krakauers climbing mates. he said it because the extreme cold made him unconcious and when he woke up he was half frozen. he had to drag himself back to camp where he was once again left for dead and he once again he miracously got himself back to camp. i chose this quote because it shows this mans bravery. his team had given up on him twice and both times he got through it by himself.

  1. This book seems very interesting to read. I feel like this man that dragged himself back to camp has a lot of courage and belief in himself. He inspires with his bravery and I hope that one day, I too can be known as having great courage just like this man. This definitely seems like I book I would like to read.

  2. This sounds like a really good book. I'm very surprised that the men, knowing that a blizzard was coming, still decided to keep climbing anyways. That tells me that they shouldn't have been climbing it in the first place. I would deffinitley consider this a book that i would want to read. -Corey Whelihan

  3. The book seems to be a good read. While on the climb of the biggest mountain and having a blizzard come must have been intense. This is a book that I would like to read.

  4. This book seems like a very interesting book. I was thinking about reading it but I wasn't sure. I enjoy reading books with adventures and alot of action. I also heard that it's extremely expensive to climb the mountain with a team. It takes around 2 weeks and it's very, very dangerous.
