Summary:
This novel by Alice Sebold, is about a teenage girl named Susie Salmon who is 14 years old. She was raped and brutally murdered by her neighbor Mr. George Harvey. This story is told from Susie's point of view. She is watching her friends and family as they desperately try to find Susie. Susie's father knows Mr. Harvey and ends up suspecting him as a suspect in what happened to his daughter. The police throughout this are doing the best they can. They give up eventually when no leads turn up after investigating Mr. Harvey. Susie's family never gives up on Susie and wishes to have closure someday. Susie, towards the end of the book, takes over her friends body and talks to her boyfriend through her. Mr. Harvey had put Susie's body into a safe and dropped it in a sink hole. Her friends had a feeling about this and checked it out but could not find any trace of this. In the end Susie's family gets closure.
Review:
My review for this novel is that its a great story. Anyone who likes murder mysteries would like this. I think this brings a good point across to young people also. No matter what someone says or how much you think you may know them, don't go with them anywhere that's unusual like Susie did, because in the end you may not come out alive.
Quote:
“She had a stare that stretched to infinity. She was, in that moment, not my mother but something separate from me.” (p. 43) I picked this quote because I believe it shows Susie's thoughts and why in the end she realizes that she should let her family go and move on like them.

Lovely Bones is one of my all time favorite books. This book was very easy to get into and hard to put down. I wish I could have read it for outside reading but I read it in the summer instead.
