Summary:
Anna Fitzgerald was genetically engineered as a fetus to be a donor to her older sister Kate, who has leukemia. She was engineered to have extra bone marrow and other functions just to keep Kate alive. Once Anna was to donate her kidney to save her sister’s life, she filed a lawsuit against her parents to gain the rights to her own body. Her father has mixed feelings, but believes she should make her own decisions. Anna’s mother keeps on insisting that she donates her kidney. She also tried to guilt Anna into dropping the case.
Review:
This story was very touching. Into the first five pages I was crying. My Sister’s Keeper is an engaging novel from start to finish. It left me wanting more. I don’t know what I would do if I was in Anna’s position, but I think it was right for her to stand up for herself. She was very brave for going through all the surgeries and all she did for her own rights.
Quote :
“The only way I can fight for you is if you can prove to everyone that you can fight for yourself when I walk away.”
Lawyer, Campbell Alexander to Anna Fitzgerald
I chose this quote because it was very powerful to me. It also showed how serious this case was, and how Anna needed to be 100% determined to win it at all costs. This quote also shows how Anna was uncertain to fight against her parents, but she is aware she needed to follow through with the case.
