Kissing the Rain by Kevin Brooks

Summary:
When Mike (Moo) Nelson moved to a new town, he began being picked on. Anytime he was "rained" on he would go to his escape place after school, the bridge over the A12. Here he could relax and listen to the cars drive by, until one day he witnessed two cars in road rage. This lead to the drivers getting out of the car and fighting each other, and the other passengers of one car getting out as well. A police officer came up to talk to him and told him the fight lead to a murder, and Mike would have to testify in court. Everyone wanted his story but he had to choose what story he wants to tell to save himself and the people he cares about.

Review:
The story had a very strong message which was to do what feels right to you. For this reason along with the fact that the book was a very good read, I would recommend this book to others. The story seemed like it could actually happen in real life which made it more enjoyable. But one set back was the constant jumping around that occured in the book as well as there not being a real ending, but more of a cliff hanger at the end.

Quote:
"It's my release...my PLACE...my shelter from the RAIN..." I chose this quote because this explains how much the bridge over the highway meant to him. It was the only place he could get away from the name calling and all the bullying he encountered everyday.

  1. ERIC LOUBRIEL- Mike really reminds me of myself when I first moved to South Hadley. I haven't read the book but it sounds like something i could surely get into. The quote is also a very powerful one. It shows great emotion and feeling towards the bridge over highway. Signed, ERIC LOUBRIEL

  2. I have never read this book but it sounds good. It seems like anyone can relate to it because we all have to make hard decisions sometimes. I think this book would make me sad that he felt that he had to go away from people because they were bullying him. I would like to read it though because it sounds like it has a powerful message behind it.

  3. This book sounds like one anyone can relate to, preferably males though on how hard it is with life and making decisions. I think I would like it if I read it.

  4. This book sounds good. I think it would be cool to find out what happens in the end. I wouldn't normally read something like this, but it sounds interesting. I think guy would relate more to it though.

  5. The way you wrote the summary reminded me of Snakes On A Plane (a little). It sounds like a good book though. Everyone should have a place to go to excape everything, and just be alone. I like the quote because it is more than just a bridge, it's his place to be himself. - Kylie LaRocque
