Moby Dick by Herman Melville

Summary:
There is a sailor named Ishmal**, and he is telling the story through his eyes. In the story, Ishmal tells how he wants to be aboard a whaling vessel. Ishmal is an experienced sailor, but has never been aboard a whaling vessel. Ishmal and Ishmals friend, Queequeg, take a ferry to Nantucket, where they hope to find a ship they can board. They find work on a ship called the Pequod, whos captain, Ahab, has recently lost his leg trying to catch a sperm whale. Ahab tells all the men on the ship that they are going to hunt down and kill Moby Dick, the whale that made Ahab lose his leg. A prophet named Fedallah warns Ahab that going after Moby Dick is bad luck, and that Ahab will be killed. Ahab does not listen, and perpares everyone to get ready for the capture of Moby Dick. Ahab eventually finds Moby Dick, but the first two times they go after him are met with their harpoon boats being destroyed. On the third try, Ishmal is flung from the harpoon boat, and sees Ahab harpoon Moby Dick. But Moby Dick attacks the Pequod and sinks it. Ahab is also flung out of the harpoon boat to his death. The sinking of the Pequod makes a huge water "tornado", and all the men are killed. Ishmal survives, and he is picked up by the ship, the Rachel, and brought back to safety.

Review:
I thought this book was very good. It was very confusing at points, especially since the language it is written in is very strange. But the ending is very action packed. Everyone told me this was one of the best books ever written. Although i do not think this book was as good as some people have told me, i still feel it was a really good book and recommend it to anyone who enjoys action and adventure novels.

Quote:
"How it is I know not; but there is no place like a bed for confidential disclosures between friends.", I chose this quote because it shows that through any crazy stage you may be in your life, you always have people you can trust and go home to. Friends are always there for you, so you must be there for them as well.

**Note: His name is actually spelled Ishmael.

  1. I read this novel a long time ago and it was very good. I liked how the author used a lot of action and adventure to make the story very interesting. This story can be viewed in many different ways and therefore it illustrates a variety of morals. I liked the quote you chose because it shows the value of friendship and comradery. - Raheem Malik
