Book: That SummerAuthor: Sarah DessenPages: 198
This was an amazing book.At first I found it not as interesting, but as the plot progressed in the story, i could not put it down. The book That Summer is about teenager haven who is insecure and too tall. Her mother and father just went through a divorce, and her sister is marrying someone she just does not think is right for her. When all the tramua of her life starts to get to her, she finds a retreat, one of her sisters old boyfriends that made her sister different, happy, and kind. Now with the wedding occuring her dad getting married to a new wife, and the old boyfriend coming back, all Haven can think about is the past. This book has a excellent plot and really sends out great messages. If you dont want to feel like crying and being truly touched, dont read this book.

When I read this book this past summer i just didn't find it apealing. Mostly because the entire book is talking about the rest of Haven's family. I didn't really like that it took forever to make sense to me. It definately wasn't even comparable to Sarah Dessen's other books, which had great plots and inspiring underlying messages. I really did enjoy Dessen's other novels so this book definately let me down, it was aslo really sad.

ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a really involved book. I'm normally a good listener if people are looking for advice but I don’t know if I could just sit through 300 pages of a girl complaining. Sometimes you just go to make do with what you’re given. Make lemonade outa lemons my friend. And when people just sit around wining, I get frustrated, either do something about it or shut up. So yea idk if I would really enjoy this book by the way its described but props to you for putting up with it.

So I think I agree with Joe. I also am usually a good listener, but an entire book of a girl complaining is too much. I think that she should leave her sister alone, she obviously has her reasons for marrying this guy. And as for her dad, parents get divorced and re-marry. Again agreeing with Joe, get over it.
