Title: Twilight
Author: Stephenie Meyer
Publisher: Little Brown and Company NY/Boston
Pages: 498
Book found in: My sisters book collection
Summary: Bella is a senior in high school who moves to Forks, WA to live with her father. At her new high school, Bella befriends the popular girl and catches the eye of the popular boy. Edward, who is movie-star perfect, doesn’t acknowledge Bella at first. Bella wishes to find out the truth about Edward after multiple instances where he is inhuman. Bella comes to realize that Edward is a vampire who craves her blood more than any other humans. ( Edward and his family are vegetarians and do not suck blood). They want to have a relationship, but must overcome many obstacles. In the process, Edwards and his family must protect Bella from a blood thirsty vampire looking for Bella. Edward ends up saving Bella’s life when he must suck the venom from her arm when bitten by the other vampire. Edwards love for Bella and hers for him is very visible at the end when he takes her to prom.
Audience: Twilight is a book that would be for more mature teens and adults. It is a romance and thriller. Everyone should read Twilight because it relays a good message and it’s a great book.
Style: Stephenie’s style of writing is very descriptive. The reader is able to visualize the picture she is painting through her descriptions. It pulls the reader into the story because she uses her style makes the chapters interesting and nail biting!
“He was in front of me in a flash. I didn’t see if he used his hand or foot, it was too fast. A crushing blow struck my chest- I felt myself flying backward, and then heard he crunch as my head bashed into the mirrors. The glass buckled, some of the pieces shattering and splintering on the floor beside me.” (pg. 449)
Passages:
“But Edward was at my side at once. He caught me up in his iron grip, crushing me to him. He seemed unaware of his watching family as he pulled my face to his, lifting my feet off the floor. For the shortest second, his lips were icy and hard against mine. Then it was over. He set me down, still holding my face, his glorious eyes burning into mine.” (pg 403)
àà I chose this quote because of the description the author uses. You can really feel what she is feeling and visualize it in your mind. This quote really shows the intensity of their love for one another.
“Edwards face was drawn. I watched his eyes as the doubt was suddenly replaced with a blazing determination. His jaw tightened. I felt his cool, strong fingers on my burning hand, locking it in place. Then his head bent over it, and his cold lips pressed against my skin.” (pg. 456)
àà I chose this quote because it shows the real passion Edward has for Bella. You can really feel the emotions of fear, and love. This passage really struck me because its really powerful. The author uses description really well in this quote.

Response: I, personally, loved this book! It really keeps the reader involved in the story and wanting more. I interacted with this book by visualizing in my head the scenes depicted in the chapters. Some parts that really stood out to me was when Edward and Bella were together and how they interacted with each other. It was interesting to see how Edward would have to control himself and prevent himself from attempting to attack Bella. I am going to read the other books that are part of this series and I strongly recommend reading and watching the movie for this book.

I didn't read the book, but I saw the movie. The movie was awesome. I heard that the book was much better though, so i will have to take their word for it. I enjoy romances so this was a good movie to see and a great book to hear about. Can't wait to see New Moon in thaters soon!

I saw this movie and thought it was pretty good. I have heard however, that the book is extremely good and that it has a lot better description of the plot. I really like the quotes that you chose. They are a good description of the the novel itself. I plan on reading this book in the future to find out for myself if it is better than the movie was. I'm hoping that it is, otherwise I'm going to be disappointed. -Corey Whelihan
ReplyDeleteI didn't read the book, but I saw the movie and it was pretty good. The book seems to be better then the movie though. According to many people and this summary the book is better then the movie. The movie of this book was a perfect example of the kind of movies and books that I like. The quotes that you picked were awesome.I would probably interact with the book the same way with maybe some slight differences(I wouldn't feel like I am involved in the story) like you said that you were.

I have never read this book but I've seen the movie. It was really good, it's probably one of my favorite movies. I've been wanting to read the book because i heard that its better than the movie and the books are usually better than the movies. The quotes you chose were really good and had a lot of description in it. After reading each quote I was able to think back to the movie and remember what scene they were from.

The movie Twilight was amazing! I havent gotten the chance to read the book yet, but I definitely plan on it. The quotes used were a really good use of explaining the book in summary, and I can only imagine how much better the book will be over the movie.
ReplyDeleteMy best friend read this book and kept talking about how amazing it was. Fantasys aren't really my type of book but ive heard a lot about this book that might attract me to it. The thought of being involved with a vampire is a crazy thing, so it makes the novel that much more interesting. I loved the movie, so i most likely will love the book when i read it!
ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed this book. It was hard to put down once I started reading. I agree with your response to the book it is very easy to visualize what is happening in the story.

I didn't read any of the books but I hear they are amazing. I'll take peoples word for it cause I did see the movie. That was pretty incredible. I've always thought about reading the book version so maybe I will sometime soon. The passages are interesting and touching.

I've seen this movie before, but I feel like people always do their outside reading book on Twilight. I'm pretty bored and annoyed with Twilight because people are always talking about it, and quite frankly I've read enough reviews on this book by now. I didn't think that the movie was that bad, but it was more of a "chick-flic" and thats why I wouldn't read the book. The book would be a bit too much of a sappy or romantic novel for me to actually read, not trying to impress anyone with masculinity, but thats how I feel.

I actually did read this book because someone told me I should. I actually really liked it. It was a fulfilling novel. It contained both drama action and depth. I could relate to some of the characters and I enjoyed reading about the fight scenes. Some of the emotions in the story do get a little gushy for a guy but like i said the action coincides for that. When I saw the movie I thought it really sucked. They made it way to unrealistic, and I mean, I know it’s kind of hard to make a vampire realistic but they could have done better. Good summery though.

I'm actually on the Book Breaking Dawn right now, which is the fourth book in the Twilight series. And i think Twilight was the best book of them all so far. I love the quotes you picked because i think they show the relationship between Edward and Bella perfectly. I agree with your response about when your reading the book it creates images in your head as you continue throughout the book.
ReplyDeleteI think that the summary is very good. I saw the movieand i was not very impressed to say the least. The book doesn't seem to far off from what i saw in the movie. Im sure that this book appeals to many young teenage love enthusiasts but im not so susceptible to twilights "charm". But what ive read from the writing style description gives it some respect in my book.
