Death Be Not Proud (Colleen Paquin)

The Title of my novel is Death Be Not Proud. The author of my book is John Gunther. The Harper Collins Pubishers published the novel. There are 205 pages in this novel. I found this book at my house. My sister read it a few years ago, and she said it was really good so I decided to read it myself. I agree with her. This novel is about the authors son, Johnny Gunther. He attended Deerfield Academy and died at age 17. He was seen by different doctors. And he was put on a diet. Johnny died at 11:02 PM just after falling asleep. Frances was very sad about her husbands death. Johnny died in 1947. Gunther wrote this novel generally for smarter audiences. I believe this because he uses words and phrases that a lot of people would not understand. I think the writing style of this novel was used to move a lot of people. This book moved me a lot. "I hope we can love Johnny more … and leave behind us, as he did, the love of love, the love of life." This quote made me really think because when someone dies you should think of the happy times the person had in their life, not all the sad ones. "God is what's good in me." This quote made me realize that God is in all of us. As much as someone does not believe it, he is. God is what makes us do good deeds. And we should share it with everyone. "Scientists will save us all." This quote made me really happy. Because even though scientists could not save Johnny at the time, he hopes scientists will be able to save us in our time of need. I really enjoyed this book. I think it was really sad at some parts. But overall it was a really good book. I can relate to this book a little bit. I almost died when I was a baby. There were a lot of parts that really spoke to me. Such as when he died and how people reacted to it. Also I learned a lot from this book.

  1. The death of a family member is a very painful loss. I can relate to this novel because my father was very close to dying a few years ago. I couldn't even imagine how I would feel if he actually passed away. I can also relate to this because I do believe in God and I think he does help you throughout the journey you have in your lifetime.

  2. This work of literature sounds very interesting. I enjoy a non fictional writing peice. It seems like this book will teach the reader a lesson in life. I would like to read this some day. New books are what keeps life interesting.

  3. This novel catches my attention because of the writing style. I like books that make you think when you really don't want to, and this book seems like it would be my type of reading. The quote, "God is what's good in me" makes me think about religion itself. I am religious, but I don't relate much to religion. I don't think I could relate to this book such as some others could, but I understand it's perspectives.

  4. I feel that I would like this book if I took the time to read it. I can relate to it too because I lost my cousin when he was only thirteen and I know how that is. "I hope we can love Johnny more … and leave behind us, as he did, the love of love, the love of life." I like this quote a lot because it is so touching. Also I would feel that I would like that kind of writing style.

  5. I think that this book would be interesting to read. I too almost died when I was a baby so I'm wondering if I might be able to relate to it. My family has had to deal with young death. My uncle died at age 23. Maybe this book could help not only me, but anyone who has delt with death.
