Twisted (Lawrence Washington)

Title: Twisted
Author:Laurie Halse Anderson
Publisher: The Penguin Group
Pages:250

I found the book when Laurie Halse Anderson came to the school. The day of her book signing she autographed a book for me.The book Twisted was recommended to me by Ms.Mazur.She though it was appropriate to read for a teen my age. Twisted was very uplifting to read. To read about a young man named Tyler Miller that went through different stages of his high school years. Tyler Miller was a nobody in high school until he commended a crime that made people notice him. Tyler was a very intelligent fellow he made good grades, had a big crush on the dads bosses daughter who was Bethany Milbury.

The audients is the young teenagers because they might want to do this just to be cool or something.

Laurie Halse Anderson used a style that the average teenager would understand so that they could try to relate on some kinda level to the life of Tyler Miller."Three APs plus Calc is insane. Im not that smart, Dad."(page 54) Teenagers are always saying things like i cant do this or i cant do that but teachers wouldnt give you classes that you wouldnt be successful in.

1. "He twisted the oreo open. "Are we talking about school?" "Hell, no" "How about my new Sith Lords in Congress theory?" "Not." I looked in my bag again. I'd forgotten the Doritos.(page 24) The friends have a arkward talk during lunch that people usualy dont talk about.

2."Chip was afraid to take me on because there was a chance that he'd lose in front of all his boys."He hadnt forgotten who actually won the arm-wrestling match."(page 72) Shows that the teens are always in the middle of some kinda drama.

I though that the book was very interesting to read. I really cant relate to the book. yes, there where spots that spoke to me but as it went on it stopped speaking to me.

  2. It seems like you found this book from fate. It seems like you really enjoyed reading this book. The relation to teenagers seems like it would be a fun book to read and wouldnt get bored with it. The way you described parts of the book reminds me of our school at times.

  3. I have never heard of this book but any book about a kid trying to get through high school sounds pretty interesting. I could relate to this book because I am currently in high school just trying to get by. I am not very sure if I would read this book but I may give it a try.

  4. With this being a book related to a high school student would make me interested to read it. I don't think i could realte to it much though. I mean everyone does something once in a while to fit in, but I'm not someone to so such to be "cool". The author seems like she does give the reader the teen perspective in the quotes listed above. This is a good review, and I'm interested on possibly choosing this for my next outside reading.

  5. I love Laurie Halse Anderson, and all her books. I've always wanted to read twisted. I think the book sounds very realistic in the way that it really does show that people would do anything just to be noticed and become popular. I think that is ridiculous. It sounds very interesting.

  6. Laurie Halse Anderon, is said to be a great author and I feel that i'd be able to relate to some of her stories. This book looks interesting and good. I think you're right when you say for teens because they might try this to be cool. Many high school students who are bullied many speak out in not the best was, such as commiting a crime.

Laurie Halse Anderson in my all time favorite author. When she came to the school I was excited and had her sign my book too. I never got around to reading Twisted but always wanted to get a copy. This book sounds pretty cool because kids are always trying to be cool to fit in, expecially people who don't have many friends. If I didn't have friends in High School I would sure want to make some, and commiting a crime seems like the perfect way to get attention!

  8. Since this book is about a kid going through high school it obviously has to be interesting. I think i would like to read this book because I remember when the author came to our school and she said she had a tough time through high school. So i wonder if this book would reflect some parts of her life and it just seems to interest me. Especially with the passages you gave it showed how the writing style is and I also like that as well.

  10. When Laurie Halse Anderson came to our school I was looking for a book of hers to read. When I went to the library Twisted was the only one left so I read it. I didn't expect to like it so much because I had never read a book like it before. It was so good though, and I couldn't put it down. I agree with what you say. The book is for teenagers because it deals with teenage situations.
