Title: Forever
Author: Judy Blume
Publisher: An imprint of Simon & Schuster children’s publishing division
Pages: 202
Found the book: One of my good friends gave it to me.
Summary: The book Forever is about a high school love story. Katherine meets this boy named Michael Wagner at a new year’s party. Michael comes back in the morning to gather his things and tells Katherine that he has a thing for her. Michael treats her with respect and is a very caring guy. Michael seems to be moving a little too fast for Katherine with this relationship, so Katherine stops him from moving too fast.
Audience: The audience is leaning more towards young adults and adults. The reason why is because this book is based on relationships, sex, and disease.
Writing style: Judy Blume’s writing style is fantastic, she has a message that she wants to get across too young adults. So Judy uses writing books a way to get her message across to young readers. She writes short chapters so we can understand what is going on and not get lost. She also makes excellent points and makes things realistic, so she gets the reader thinking.
2 passages:
“It occurred to me in the middle of the night that Michael asked if I was a virgin to find out what I expected of him. If I hadn’t been one then he probably would have made love to me. What scares me is I’m not sure how I feel about that “(20). This was one of the first passages that stuck out to me. The reason why it stuck out to me was because if you’re not ready to have sex then don’t have sex. If the boyfriend cannot handle that then there not worth your time, because that means they don’t respect you enough for your wishes.
“In the old days girls were divided into two groups- those who did and those who didn’t. my mother told me that. Nice girls didn’t naturally. They were the ones boys wanted to marry. I’m glad those days are over but I still get angry when older people assume that everyone in my generations screws around. They’re probably the same ones who think all kids do dope. It’s true that we are more open than our parents but that just means we accept sex and talk about it. It doesn’t mean we are all jumping into bed together. I was really surprised that grandma thought Michael and I are lovers, in the true sense” (34). This is the second passage that really stood out too me. This passage is 100% correct in my eyes, because everyone is not just jumping into bed together. Some people actually care and have respect to fall in love with people without doing those kinds of things. People never stop and think for a second they just assume.
Theme: The theme for this book I think would be do what you want, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise and force you to do something you don’t want to do. It doesn’t hurt to say no when you don’t want to do something. You are your own person and make your own decisions.
Letter grade: The grade I would give too this book would be B+. The reason why I gave it a B+ was because it wasn’t all that great. I’ve read better and more interesting books this was just an ok book. Don’t get me wrong I still liked the book because it was the kind I like to read but there are better ones out there.

I read this book a couple years ago, and I liked it. I loved Judy Blume books growing up. Her stories seem to be like real situations that I'm sure people can relate to. I think books though sometimes make situations seem better than they actually are. Such as dealing with relationships, and other life situations.
ReplyDeleteThis seems like it would be a good book. The first passage really stuck me. Today, teenagers are expected to have sex so quickly, even if they are not ready. In the first passage, that is exactly what Katherine had to deal with. Her boyfriend asked her if she was a virgin, because he wanted to have sex with her, even though Katherine did not know if she was ready. I think this book would interest me because it is about something a lot of kids my age have to deal with, so it would be easy to relate to.

This book seems like something I would read. It seems like something a lot of teenagers would be interested in too. I like the quotes you choose. They made me more interested in the book. It crazy that people are having sex younger and younger.

This book makes a lot of sense from what I am reading here. Many adults and seniors think that now a days all teenagers do is mess around. Some girls do go around and open their legs very easily but there are a handful of us who just wait till the moments right. This book sounds good but at the same time it's not something I would go out of my way to read. I just feel like it's not that interesting.
ReplyDeleteThis book really caught my eye. Everyone and they’re comments are basically what I would say. The message in this book seems like a very strong one and something that should be thought of seriously and not as a joke. I also agree that you should only do it if you feel like it is with the right person and it is the right time, not because everyone else is doing it. All and all, I don’t think this would be a bad book to read.
ReplyDeleteLinds this soulds like a really good interesting book. ive never read it but am interested in reading it next quarter. I really agree with eveyone elses comments on this book. This book i think would probably be a very good life lesson to teens that read the book and maybe itll stick in the back of their head. Good use of the passages from the book and explainations and your thoughts of them.

This book sounds interesting. Just from reading the title of the book I was hooked. The summary was great and I agree with everyone else. Teenagers are pressured into rushing into things that take time. I would most likely read this book.

Judy Bloom is one of my favorite authors, so I will definitely keep this book in mind for next time. The topic seems like it will keep me interested through the whole thing and it will be an easy read. Plus, every teen gets put under pressure and deals with the topic at hand, so it would be easy to relate to. I feel like this book would have some good advice because Judy Bloom is a really great author.
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds very interesting. I used to read Judy Blume books when I was younger, and must have forgot all about her once I got into high school. I like how we can relate to the book, because it's in a high school setting. It makes you feel more like you actually know what's going on. I may try reading this one.
ReplyDeleteLindsay! This is my most favorite book ever! I want it back by the way hahaha. I'm dissapointed that you didn't like it as much as me but everyone has their own opinion and in my eyes this is an A. I like how much you explained your first quote because it sounds like you've been in the situation before. Your second one was really good too and i'm glad you can relate to the book somewhat, and if I didn't already say it I loved this book!
