The Luxe by Anna Godbersen

Summary:
This book takes place in Manhattan 1899, and it reflects the lives of a particular group of New York's high society debutantes. An arranged marraige between two of societys most pristine young adults has Manhattan seething with excitment. Elizabeth Holland and Henry Schoonmaker agreed to get married for family reasons and to help their parents appearances. Even though it is a perfect match according to the newspapers, Elizabeth and Henry have secrets dwelling beneath their perfect facade. Both are in love with someone else and this story proves how much people will risk for the sake of love.

Review:
It was very interesting to take a look into New York's past and get a feel for all the grandeur and aptitude of a perfect society at the turn of the 20th century. I never knew how far people would go to make their appearances untouchable. However, after reading this book I do see that it is much the same in modern high school because people always want the best of something. This story was a reflection of true love and the obstacles that may stand in the way of two people being together. I like that morale and it was very well intwined with the story of Elizabeth Holland in Manhattan 1899.

Quote:

"I will remind him of Elizabeth's feelings and that no matter how prearrainged their engagement may be, the potential for her to become very hurt is quite real."

I choose this quote because I feel that it reflects the scandals and hurt and love involved in the story.
