Summary:
In November 1965, some 450 U.S. sodiers, under the command of Lt. Col. Hal Moore (also the author), were dropped by helicopter into a small clearing in the Ia Drang Valley, in Viet Nam. They were immediately surrounded by 2,000 North Vietnamese soldiers. This book is based on the events that occured during this brutal three-day battle, which was the first major battle between the U.S. and the Vietnamese. The book not only focussed on the devastation of the battle, but the hardships the families of the soldiers go through while they're away.
Review:
This book is the best first hand account that I have ever read. The realistic depiction of war, mixed with it's graphic descriptions make this novel a must read. What truely makes this a great story, is the fact that the book was written by someone who really wanted the world to understand what war is really like. It adds compasion to the story that can't be found in any other book.
Quote:
"But I swear this, before you and before Almighty God. When we go into battle, I will be the first to step onto the field and I will be the last to step off. And I will leave no one behind. Dead or alive. We will all come home. Together." Lt. Col. Hal Moore
I choose this quote because it seems to represent the responsibility of Lt. Col. Hal Moore, and gives his soldiers a sense of releif knowing that they will be properly put to rest. It creates trust between them and Lt. Col. Moore will do anything to keep it.

It makes me want to read this book right now. It sounds really interesting and sounds like it is full of action scenes. I would like to read this because I like war stories and I feel like this is going to be a really good book for me. I really like the quote because the Lt. Col. Hal Moore is giving the troops by not giving up and there is someone who is willing to die for you and that is the Lieutenant.
